40+ Quotes to Cultivate a Healthy Body Mindset

Healthy Body Mindset Quotes, Small-Town Girl at Heart

I first became conscious of my body in elementary school around the time when other girls in my class were starting puberty. It was around this time when the girls began comparing their changing bodies with each other.

It was also around this time when the body shaming comments began.

The comments started innocently enough, such as when a classmate asked if I was anorexic in an attempt to understand why my body was so thin. But soon afterwards, the comments turned into weapons that were meant to discredit a girl’s self-esteem and drag her down to a place where she doubted her value and worth.

Tap here to read my story about body shaming and the impact it had on my mental health.

I spent the duration of my adolescence doubting my worth as a girl budding into womanhood, and this self-doubt carried over into adulthood. I believe that part of my current struggles with anxiety and depression were seeded and took root during my teen years as my self-perception and self-esteem were developed in an environment that produced shame, fear and insecurity.

For this reason, one part of my healing journey from chronic stress, anxiety and depression requires taking the time to dismantle the harmful ideas I developed in adolescence about my body and my worth as a person, and replacing those lies with healthy truths that I can use to reconstruct my self-perception and self-esteem.

Tap here to read more about how to stop body shaming yourself and how to cultivate a healthy body mindset so you can begin living your best life today.

Below are some of my favourite quotes and Bible verses that you can use to build up a collection of self-truths to aid you in your own healing journey!

Beauty Comes in All Shapes, Sizes and… Body Parts

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that your beauty is only comprised of what’s on the surface. True beauty is so much more than that. All parts of your body are beautiful, even the parts that no one can see on the outside, such as your heart, your mind, and your soul.

Be Unapologetically You

The next time you begin to compare your own body, skill set and/or value to another person’s, STOP. Forget the adjectives. Forget the comparisons. You are not the other person. You are simply YOU. So let yourself be who you are, and don’t ever apologize for it!

Choose Healthy Options That Lift You Up, Not Drag You Down

When you choose to give yourself what you need to thrive, such as by eating a nutritious meal or by participating in an activity you enjoy, you are actually saying to yourself, “I love you! You are worth it!” And your mind and body will respond in kind by saying, “I feel great! Thank you for loving me so well!”

You are Perfectly Imperfect

Perfection doesn’t exist, so we shouldn’t try to strive for an unattainable goal. This doesn’t mean, however, that we shouldn’t strive to improve ourselves so that we can be better people, but our goals need to be reasonable and realistic. Instead of striving for perfection, let’s embrace ourselves as we are—with all our flaws and imperfections—because that’s what makes us human.

Love Yourself as You Would Have Others Love You

We often spend so much time loving and serving others that we forget to take the time to love ourselves. Self-love can take on many forms, such as by allowing your body to get adequate rest, eat nourishing foods, or participate in the activities you enjoy. Self-love also means forgiving yourself for mistakes you make and speaking kindly to your reflection in the mirror.

Wonderfully Made

Finally, remember that you were created in the image of God. While you were still in your mother’s womb, God created you as an image of Himself. I pray that, one day when you look in the mirror, you may see a reflection of your Heavenly Father looking back at you.
