50+ Quotes to Live By When You are Feeling Stressed

I am in the process of healing from chronic stress and its adverse effects on my mental and physical health. It has been over two years since my healing journey formally began, and I’m getting better little-by-little, day-by-day, but I still have a long road of recovery ahead of me.

As part of my healing journey, I have been reading books, Bible verses, and mental health blog posts to help me reframe my mind when it comes to stress and how to cope with it.

There are so many helpful resources out there that I wish I had known about before chronic stress nearly destroyed my life. They would have been helpful in establishing a foundation that would allow me to reframe my mindset during stressful periods in my life.

Tap here to read more about my story with chronic stress and how I overcame it.

Perhaps if I had this foundation much sooner, I might have been able to avoid some of the pain and grief I went through.

But, of course, that’s all in the past now and there’s nothing I can do to change the past. All I can do is learn from it and share my newfound knowledge with others who can benefit from this information.

If you are battling with chronic stress, tap here to read more about what chronic stress is, what it does to your health, and how to get it under control.

I compiled the below list of my favourite quotes, Bible verses and phrases to share with you so that you can use them to help you get through your own journey with chronic stress!

The Effects of Anxiety and Fear on Stress

When my own stress levels were on the rise, I noticed a direct correlation between my stress and fear. Often my fear was irrational and had no basis, but it affected how I responded to the everyday pressures of life and led to extreme feelings of overwhelm. My stress eventually became a manifestation of my fear and it became hard to separate reality from my imagination.

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, it empties today of its strength.”

Corrie Ten Boom

“…various aspects of a task can intimidate us to the point where we will put it off as long as we can. The mere size of a task can frighten us and literally paralyze us with fear. We can also feel intimidated by any risks involved with the job or any pressures associated with it… a fear of failure can immobilize us and hinder our productivity.”

J.M. Farro, Life on Purpose Devotional for Women

“Whether our battles are big or small, we should commit them to the Lord and ask Him to fight for us and show us what our part might be. It’s important in times like these that we resist becoming fearful or anxious, because fear can cause us to react rashly, and to make poor decisions and costly mistakes. Fear can also make it more difficult for us to receive direction from the Lord. It’s wiser for us to pray and stand on God’s promises of victory.”

J.M. Farro, Life on Purpose Devotional for Women

*

Kahlil Gibran

*

“Yet, even when we acknowledge their irrationalities, our fears can seem so real and powerful in moments of panic; they can paralyze us into inaction or move us to do something foolish. They can inhibit us from using our gifts to impact others in positive ways. They can cause anxiety, negatively impacting our health. Fear can skew our view, transforming even the tiniest of concerns into towers of dread.”

Kyle Rudge, “For Fear of Demons, Angels, and the Lord,” Thy Geekdom Come

Perspective is Everything

I have heard the phrase “when you can’t change your circumstances, change your perspective.” This wise advice can be applied to how we see and perceive stress in our own lives and how much control we let it have.

The Importance of Inner Peace

Having inner peace draws a clear line between pressure and stress. If you don’t have inner peace about a decision you’ve made or a situation you’re in, take some time to find out why. Here are a few quotes to help you with this:

“…when we don’t have peace in our hearts about doing something, there’s usually a good reason for it. It’s true that the Lord will often ask us to step out in faith and do something that makes us fearful and anxious. I do believe this is what God wants me to do.’ And the Lord’s presence and power will be there to enable and sustain us.”

Be Proactive in Fighting Stress

It’s so important to implement practices you can incorporate into your daily routine to help you keep stress under control before stress gets control of you. It’s much easier to deal with a problem when it’s the size of a snowball than when it becomes an avalanche.
